TIMELESS FREEDOM - Colored pencil on paper, 19" x 24", 2004
Timeless Freedom was my first eagle drawing of the series. In hindsight, I realize that the Inspiration to draw eagles came from a personal need for healing from my breakup of a 17 year marriage and a lot of negative emotional and mental buildup. The mystical attributes of eagles are healing, potency and illumination, which was what I deeply needed at this personal juncture in my life. My heart somehow knew what I needed to do for the rest of my being, for drawing these magnificent animals helped me step into a journey of growth and transformation.Animals all have attributes that we are instinctively drawn to that help us at any given time of our life. In this sense, animals are our soul mates also. What animals so you have a special affinity for?

SERENE LOYALTY - Colored pencil on paper, 19" x 24", 2005
Serene Loyalty was my second of the eagle series. I had so much fun doing this drawing. I experienced profound spiritual and emotional growth while I did this drawing. Like when I worked on Timeless Freedom, engaging in the drawing of this piece with a prayerful and grateful consciousness, I was deeply blessed in many ways. The title, Serene Loyalty, grew out of a two-fold inspiration. The first one being that I was determined to follow through with this piece to its completion, (for I had a history of sometimes starting a picture but not finishing it), and it was a lot of work, building up the layers of hue, dark and light to reach the desired realism, especially in the grassy hill, and the rippled water near the shore. This perseverance was becoming a part of my desire for self-actualization in Art ~ the higher potential and Divine purpose I knew I was meant to fulfill. The second inspiration for the title was that of the example of bald eagles themselves, for once they find a mate, they are loyal companions until death. This is what I still aspired to experience in my life, in the thing called ‘relationship’.I have felt that it is important to release the negativity of the past and reaffirm the ‘vulnerable’ spirit that belongs to true loyalty.
In composing the picture, I used a photo of two or three eagles on the hill, but I took away all but one, and then added the eagle flying away from the nest to, as I affectionately say, “go fishing”.
The original of Serene Loyalty is currently up for bid in a 140hours Art Auction. If you would like a high quality print, please click on the Art Store. ~ Thank you!
YOUTHFUL WONDER (Where Waters Meet Earth) - Colored pencil on paper, 18" x 24", 2006
I love the youth of the world. This piece, Youthful Wonder (Where Waters Meet Earth), as the third drawing of the eagle series, was inspired by an awakening childlike appreciation for the beauty in all of Creation. This eagle is a juvenile bald eagle, exploring the coastline with wide, beaming eyes, echoing the innocent wonder of our children. I had tremendous fun drawing this picture, because I had a knowing in my heart that as I applied the various colors and hues, that I was connecting to a deep part of myself that I had sadly neglected for too many years. How do you feel about the child within you?Do you feel you need to awaken this Delicate, yet Resilient One and see what wonderful creative things you can do in your life?
The original of Youthful Wonder (Where Waters Meet Earth) is already sold and in a privately owned collection, but if you want to purchase a high quality print of this work of art, please click on the Art Store. ~ Thank you!
It is my intention to do more eagle drawings in the future, and especially my hope to visit up in the northern parts where the eagles are thriving and take my own photos of this noble creatures to use for further exploration in the drawing and painting of them.
